REA’s February Auction Sets Vintage Card Records

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) hit a home run in its recent February auction, raking in over $1.2 million in sales that left collectors and enthusiasts buzzing. The star of the show? A stunning PSA 5 graded M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card that fetched a jaw-dropping $75,000, shattering records and igniting a fiery bidding war.

But that wasn’t the only card turning heads at the event. A Ty Cobb Blue Background card from the same M116 Sporting Life series, graded as a PSA GOOD 2, made waves by setting a new record for its condition with a sale price of $15,000. The auction wasn’t just about the old-timers, though; modern gems like the ten Mint 9 graded cards from the 196 Topps set also stole the spotlight. Among them, a #2 Roman Mejias PSA MINT 9 card stole the show by commanding an astounding $19,200, proving that vintage cards still hold a special place in collectors’ hearts.

With a whopping 2,732 items up for grabs, REA’s auction was a treasure trove of collectibles that catered to a wide range of tastes. The bidding frenzy extended to pieces like a 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Portrait Red Background PSA VG-EX 4, fetching $21,000, a 1934 R320 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig PSA EX-MT 6, sold for $18,000, and a 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball PSA NM-MT 8 Complete Set that went for an impressive $12,000.

Brian Dwyer, the President of REA, couldn’t contain his excitement over the auction’s success and the overwhelming response from the collector community. He hinted at more thrilling events coming up in the form of REA’s March and Spring Auctions, promising even more opportunities for sports memorabilia aficionados to get their hands on prized collectibles.

The recent auction by REA not only solidifies the enduring allure and value of vintage sports cards and memorabilia but also sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting future for collectors and enthusiasts alike. With the next Encore event slated for March 14-24 and the Spring Catalog Auction kicking off on April 5, REA continues to cement its status as a powerhouse platform for the sports collectibles market. So, collectors, keep your eyes peeled and your wallets ready for what’s to come in the world of sports memorabilia auctions.
