Lelands Winter Classic Auction Highlights: Clemente and Williams Memorabilia Lead the Way

The recent Lelands 2024 Winter Classic Auction left sports memorabilia enthusiasts in awe with its astonishing sales and rare finds. Among the standout items, a 1960 game-worn Roberto Clemente jersey stole the show by fetching an impressive $256,714. This vest-style road flannel, donned during one of Clemente’s standout seasons, received a stellar grade from SGC, underscoring its exceptional quality and preservation.

Not to be outdone, a Ted Williams jersey from his remarkable 1942 season commanded a price of $191,563. This unique piece, originally a gift to a loyal Fenway Park fan and later altered for an improved fit, stands as the sole known jersey from Williams’ 1942 campaign, making it a significant discovery for collectors. Adding to the allure, a Williams warm-up jacket from the 1940s changed hands for $40,920, further enhancing the auction’s appeal.

A baseball bearing the autographs of Babe Ruth and Honus Wagner, cherished as a family heirloom, saw spirited bidding reach up to $102,694. This pristine item also featured signatures from Al Simmons and George Earnshaw. Additionally, a 1920s photo signed by Ruth and Lou Gehrig commanded $131,066, while a 1949 Jackie Robinson card with a PSA grade of 9 autograph sold for $85,772.

Notable among the auction’s offerings was a 1997-98 Metal Universe Championship Precious Metal Gems Michael Jordan card, graded 8 by PSA. This rare collectible spurred a fierce bidding war, culminating in a staggering $232,847 sale, marking a significant milestone in the auction market for PMG Championship cards.

The auction’s lineup also included unopened sports memorabilia, such as a 1961 Fleer Baseball Greats box and a 1974 O-Pee-Chee Baseball box, alongside a 1991 Kentucky Derby owner’s trophy that fetched $165,479.

Game-worn items were a focal point of the event, with a Sidney Crosby rookie season jersey and memorabilia from sports legends like Lynn Swann, Brian Leetch, and Jerry Lucas garnering substantial interest and commanding top bids. The Lelands 2024 Winter Classic Auction has truly left a lasting impression on the sports memorabilia collecting community with its record-breaking sales and remarkable array of items.
