Whatnot Expands Auction Times, Allows For Extended Bids

When speed and spontaneity meet novelty and nostalgia, you get Whatnot, a live streaming platform that’s been changing the game one rapid-fire auction at a time. Reacting to the demand for a slower pace, Whatnot has introduced an extended auction format for precious commodities—those high-value, often vintage items that deserve a longer moment in the spotlight.

Until now, Whatnot was synonymous with quick-paced auctions, setting pulses racing and adrenaline high with their auctions of sometimes just five seconds in length. The platform was a vibrant marketplace where novelty items from Pokémon cards to Funko Pop figures changed hands at breakneck speed. But now, deliberately countering its established reputation for the swift, Whatnot gives sellers and buyers time to breathe by accommodating longer auction durations. Sellers can now list their precious artefacts for up to seven days, a significant and impactful diversion from its traditional, express auction style.

This is no small development. With this shift, Whatnot intends to better facilitate the trade of high-value, single cards, both modern and vintage. The longer auction duration offers sellers more flexibility, ensuring their premium items enjoy a prolonged period of exposure. Extended auctions should allow potential buyers the luxury of time to truly contemplate their purchases, conduct necessary research, or simply to let the excitement build.

Providing a further boost to flexibility and exposure, Whatnot has also introduced the ability for sellers to pin their longer auctions within their live shows. This initiative allows the spotlight to remain on their premium goods at different intervals throughout the broadcast. The benefits are two-fold; sellers repeatedly showcase their prize items, while buyers enjoy increased visibility and chances for engagement.

This new format is designed to revolutionize the auction experience on Whatnot. The unique blend of an extended bidding timeline with the dynamism and interactivity of a live show allows for a deeper bonding between the audience and the sellers. The opportunity for buyers to directly interact with sellers promotes the community feeling, establishing a sense of trust and camaraderie crucial to successful auctions.

The reimagined auction format by Whatnot caters to a new set of sellers who prefer traditional, relaxed auction durations, while still capitalizing on the fun, interactive element of live streaming. This move is expected to beckon more collectors and sellers on the lookout for unique and high-value items. In the long run, this can potentially inflate Whatnot’s user base and amplify platform activity.

This strategic enhancement smoothly integrates the best of both worlds: the breadth of traditional auctions and the depth of live streaming interaction. With longer durations to bid, items stay on the buyers’ radar longer, raising the stakes and potentially the final selling price. By incorporating these changes, Whatnot is not only adapting to the changing needs of its customers but pioneering a profound evolution in the realm of online auctions.
