Mickey Mantle 1953 World Series Bat Up for Auction

A piece of baseball history is making its way to the auction block with a remarkable story behind it. The bat in question is none other than the game-used one from Mickey Mantle’s iconic performance during the 1953 World Series, now up for grabs at Heritage Auctions. This isn’t just any old bat; it’s a tangible connection to the baseball legend, complete with a backstory that adds layers to its historical significance.

The tale of this bat dates back to a youth baseball banquet held in Oklahoma City in early 1954. Mickey Mantle, alongside his fellow ballplayers Allie Reynolds and Bobby Morgan, attended the event. During the banquet, Mantle’s bat became one of the prized possessions given away to lucky attendees. Young Robert Nance was the fortunate winner of the bat, thanks to his efforts as one of the top ticket sellers for the event.

Measuring 35.5 inches and weighing just under 34 ounces, this K55 model bat has been graded a perfect PSA/DNA GU 10 for its impeccable condition and authenticity. What sets this bat apart is Mantle’s personal connection to it. The baseball star himself confirmed to Nance that this was the very bat he wielded during the 1953 World Series, showcasing paint streaks from the Yankee Stadium dugout. With this bat, Mantle made history, hitting two home runs against the Dodgers, including his sole postseason grand slam, aiding the Yankees in securing their fifth consecutive World Series title.

The bat’s authenticity is further solidified by a letter from Nance recounting the moment Mantle gave him the bat, infusing the piece with a personal touch that adds to its allure. An expert from PSA/DNA, John Taube, has verified the bat’s use in 1953 through factory ordering records, highlighting its exceptional condition marked by numerous ball marks, stitch impressions, and blue rack streaks.

Heritage Auctions has labeled this item as one of the most exceptional Mantle bats ever to be featured in the auction world, touting its pristine condition and unrivaled historical significance. Interested bidders have the chance to own a unique slice of sports history until the auction concludes on Friday, May 17. With its remarkable backstory, impeccable condition, and sentimental value, the price for this extraordinary piece is expected to soar well into the six figures, making it a coveted item for baseball memorabilia enthusiasts and collectors alike.
