PWCC Breaks Record with Sale of Rare Michael Jordan Card

PWCC Marketplace’s November Premier Auction has made headlines once again, as a rare Michael Jordan card achieved a record-breaking sale. The card in question is a 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies edition, which sold for an impressive six-figure sum of $216,000. This sale sets a new record for this particular parallel card, with only 50 of them ever produced. In fact, it now ranks as the second most expensive Star Rubies card ever sold, proving the high demand for this iconic basketball star’s memorabilia.

The 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies card series is highly sought-after amongst collectors. This series introduced the concept of serial-numbered cards, adding rarity to the hobby. The Star Rubies edition, along with Skybox’s Precious Metal Gems series, became the pinnacle of rarity within the basketball card collecting community.

What makes the 1998 release even more special is its timing. This set was the final Skybox release to showcase Michael Jordan before his retirement in 1998. As a result, cards from this set have gained immense value and are considered highly collectible. The intricate foil details and edge-to-edge design of these cards make them even more desirable. However, their delicate nature also makes them prone to wear, increasing their rarity and value.

The record-breaking Jordan card from the PWCC auction received a PSA 7 grade. This means that out of all the cards of this type, only four have received this grade. Moreover, there are just five cards that have been graded higher. With such limited supply and high demand, it’s no wonder that this Jordan card fetched such an impressive price.

But the record-breaking sale was not the only highlight of the PWCC auction. Another notable item was a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 card, graded PSA 1 (MC), which sold for $35,400. Despite its less-than-perfect condition, collectors were still willing to pay a significant sum for the iconic Mantle card.

In addition, a Kobe Bryant 1999 Upper Deck Game Jerseys patch autograph card set its own record by selling for $32,700. This card, featuring a piece of Kobe’s actual jersey, is highly sought-after by fans and collectors alike.

The auction also featured a 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 card showcasing Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, which garnered $20,400. This card, capturing two Formula 1 champions, is a must-have for fans of the sport and collectors looking to add a unique piece to their collection.

Overall, the PWCC Marketplace’s November Premier Auction was a resounding success, with the Michael Jordan card sale stealing the spotlight. The record-breaking price of $216,000 for the 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies edition highlights the enduring popularity and value of Jordan’s memorabilia in the collector’s market. With each rare card that hits the auction block, the excitement and anticipation among collectors continue to grow, as they strive to add these coveted pieces to their prized collections.
